The story of Donini begins at the turn of the 20th century, in a trattoria located at 7, Durini street in Old Milan. Many of the regulars would stay after closing to chat with the owner, Signore Donini, while indulging in a good glass of wine. It was not long before he was appointed by his customers to select the best wines for their private cellars, and he began sourcing attractive ones to bear his own name. Later, his heirs decided to honor their father by trademarking Donini, and thus a commercial enterprise was born. They chose a butterfly as the brand logo, in honor of their father’s passion for his butterfly collection. Today, Donini offers a “collezione”, collection, of important and popular varietals and denominations that are distinctly Italian and offer extreme quality for price.

Spanning 11 regions across Italy, Gruppo Italiano Vinis 14 cellars are among the most representative of Italian wine-making history and culture. The estates, which total 1,340 hectares of vineyards, extend from Lombardy (Valtellina) in the far north of Italy to Sicily and cover the best viticultural zones: Piedmont, Veneto, Emilia Romagna and Tuscany, down through Lazio and Umbria to Collio, Puglia and Basilicata. Each cellar obtains the very best production from its own properties. Starting in the vineyard, the process is managed and controlled to ensure the selection required to obtain wines that fully express their territory.
