The Frescobaldi family is rooted deeply in the history of art, culture and trade of Italy and Tuscany. For the last 700 years, agriculture and grape growing have been the main occupation of the Frescobaldi family.
In the 14th century, the Frescobaldi family supplied wine to the English royal family and the courts of many European countries; a letter of order signed by Henry VIII, the king of England, is kept in the family archive. In the 15th century, Donatello and the architect Mikelozzo Mikelozzi bought Frescobaldi wines. Since the second half of the 18th century, the Frescobaldi was the main participant in the development of Tuscan winemaking.
Immediately after the World War II, Lamberto Frescobaldi decided to modernize the family business. From the second half of the 50s and during the 60s, under the leadership of Vittorio, Ferdinando and Leonardo, there was a significant increase in winemaking. In 1989, the Frescobaldi bought the Castel Giocondo in Montalcino, the largest estate in the Brunello region.
